The Dalby cap is a contemporary variation on our classic 8-piece shape, a descendant of our York cap. Like the York, it’s often referred to as a bakerboy or newsboy cap.
This version, as with many of our styles, features the security of a deeper back with the addition of an extended – handsewn – curved peak.
We love these in our heavier tweeds, but they also work beautifully in our linens (Foss & Twiss), for spring & summer wear.

This incorporates 'top-stitched' segments, meeting along a central seam and carrying our traditional hessian interlining as well as sporting a straight peak with stud fastening.

Bought one of these from Shoehealer in Doncaster and its been both a pleasure to wear and, on closer inspection appreciate the quality of work thats gone into making it. Think I’ll be getting another linen one for next Summer or I’m considering a bespoke one.

I ordered two Dalby caps, one in Foss and one in Ribble, size 59, as well as a Lady’s Olivia hat in Foss, sized small. (Why are women’s hats not in specific sizes as Men’s are). I had my anxieties ove rthe sizing of the woman’s hat but as it happens all three are perfectly sized. They are well made, (seams are triple stitched) The tweed is of a suitable weight as is the linen in the summer hats. Delivery to Canada was much faster than I expected. A very high quality product for a fair price. I only wish the hat bands had an optional leather hat band to add that final bit of class.

I ordered this hat in Ribble from the website for fall of 2020 and I couldn’t be happier. The moment it arrived I could tell the hat was made with a focus on quality and care, it’s also a great contemporary take on a traditional style cap. The Ribble fabric is absolutely stunning. The picture helps get the idea of what the tweed will look like in person, as sometimes it can be quite difficult to perceive a true depiction of a tweed via photograph but rest assured the colors have a beautiful depth to them.
I’ll be ordering another cap of this style in Aire.

Today I received the latest purchase of my growing Lawrence and Foster collection, a Dalby in Nidd. 16 days from order to receipt in Canada. As always excellent quality, the colours of the tweed are even better than in the photograph, and it fits perfectly. If you want the real McCoy in a hand tailored cap, then Lawrence and Foster are the company for you! Many thanks team Lawrence and Foster!

After seeing the debonair David Beckham sport a baker boy cap while he waited in line to visit Queen Elizabeth’s lying-in-state, I decided to buy one of these caps for myself.
During my online search for a British-made baker boy cap, I happened upon the “Flat Cap & Newspaper Boy Hat Style Guide” article in Gentleman’s Gazette (https://www.gentlemansgazette.com/flat-cap-newsboy-hat). An article commenter mentioned a great experience buying a cap from Lawrence & Foster, so I explored their website.
Among Lawrence & Foster’s variety of stylish caps, the Dalby cap in Ribble struck my fancy. I placed my order on October 17, 2022, and received the cap at my home in the United States on November 14, 2022.
The Dalby cap fits perfectly and I love the texture, pattern, and subtle colors. Now, I need to start on the Beckham fitness program!
